Cote d'Ivoire is one of the countries most affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in West Africa, with an adult HIV/AIDS prevalence rate estimated at 4.7 percent in the general population. This report presents key findings from the HIV/AIDS service provision assessment (SPA) conducted in April 2007. The purpose of the SPA was to assess HIV/AIDS-related service provision capacity in the public and private health sectors. A total of 282 randomly selected public and private health facilities throughout the country were surveyed to assess the current levels of HIV/AIDS service provision. HIV/AIDS services examined include ART, CT, PMTCT, TB, laboratory services, PEP, and care and support services (CSS) at all levels of the health care system. In addition, the survey examined the availability of equipment, drugs and supplies, national protocols, record keeping, and waste disposal methods. Based on the findings of the SPA, the report proposes several recommendations for strengthening HIV/AIDS service provision in both the public and private sectors. (Author abstract)
